Developer-published fixes

The Steam Community Hub’s “Demo Fix Update” says the game added microphone selection, fixed issues with proximity chat, and fixed issues with the walkie-talkie. Treat that as the build’s published change history, not a promise that every later build has identical controls.

Safe troubleshooting order

  1. Choose the intended microphone in the game’s audio/voice settings if the current build exposes the selector.
  2. Check Windows input permissions and make sure the correct microphone is the default communication device.
  3. Test with one teammate in a quiet area before relying on voice near an enemy.
  4. If proximity chat is delayed or silent, note the build, input device, player count, and whether the walkie-talkie behaves differently before reporting it on Steam Discussions.

Why silence can be a mechanic

The official game page says the proximity chat system lets enemies hear players. A quiet microphone can therefore be a deliberate survival choice, while a broken microphone is a technical problem. Test both cases before concluding that voice chat is disabled.
